Sarlahi: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that preparations for the party’s 15th general convention and the House of Representatives (HoR) election will proceed simultaneously.

Speaking at a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union, Sarlahi chapter, he acknowledged concerns about limited time, as the party convention is scheduled for next month.

Debate Delayed Preparation, Says Thapa
Thapa noted that significant time had been lost in debating whether the general convention should take place before the election. Now that the party has decided to hold the convention ahead of the HoR election, he emphasized the need for unified focus and accelerated preparation.

Commitment to March 5 Election
He reiterated the party’s commitment to the March 5 election, stressing the importance of removing doubts surrounding the date to ensure smooth preparations.

Thapa said the party had alerted the government about possible security risks posed by escaped inmates and weapons looted during the September protests.

Call for Strong Action Against Crime
The General Secretary underlined that the government must act decisively to curb criminal activities to maintain a conducive environment for the election.

Inclusivity in the Election Process
Thapa referred to the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Friday, where political groups urged the government to ensure participation of all parties and groups in the upcoming election.

Thapa Preparing for Party Presidency Bid
Sharing his future plans, Thapa said he will soon begin his nationwide campaign for the party presidency, introducing new policies and messages.

He confirmed that he intends to contest the next election from Kathmandu Valley once again.
